There are many choices. The advantage of averaged data is that
it is likely to represent the typical behaviour more accurately.

The disadvantage of using this data is that it can't be verified against
any particular print. If you see a difference, is it due to errors
in your reproduction, or due to differences between your particular
reference print and the average ?

Another disadvantage is that you can't measure target and output
device using the same instrument, thereby eliminating
model and instance difference errors.
