If you can get great results from the smaller TC3.5 target, I'd say
it falls into the category of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Where standard targets like the IT8 and the ECI2002 target really
come in handy is for
1.) making profiles from standardized press data published by people
like SWOP and FOGRA
2.) comparing profiling tools by building profiles from the same sets
of measurements
I think the ECI2002 target is a significant improvement over the IT8,
but I too have obtained excellent results over the years with the
TC3.5 chart. If the device is very non-linear with very bad gray
balance, I'd go with the bigger target, but otherwise I'd only use it
for one of the reasons listed above.
