Does this defy conventional wisdom?
Conventional wisdom is split on such issues... for starters, the dozen
patches on a ColorChecker made a pretty simplistic look up table in a
profile, certainly there is no chance of localized color corrections when
there are no local colors... as for editing, do it when it works for you.
There are some items you may find to edit more easily in a balanced
workingspace, and others you may find easier to edit in the original file.
With some cameras the two are so similar that it hardly matters.
