I was unaware at the time of submitting my post that Epson use a dynamic
web page set-up, thereby rendering the page address I posted for the
update as somewhat useless. I would suggest those wanting the update to
simply go to
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/index.jsp
and navigate their way via the "Drivers and downloads" and "Manuals and
Documents" section available from that page. I simply cut and pasted the
address I had, in what I hoped would save some others time but it was
not to be. As Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 often said, "sorry about that".

I thought this could be of interest to others on the list as I don't
recall any mention of it. While doing some research for a client with an
Epson 7600, I came across a firmware upgrade dating from December that
resolves a few issues with this model and of particular interest was an
improvement in ink utilisation. From what I have been able to discover
it extracts more ink from the cartridge before displaying the need to
replace the cartridge, thereby reducing the wasted leftover ink, quite
significantly in one report I read. I believe there is a similar
firmware upgrade for the 9600 and of course it would pay to check other
models as well.
Possibly of equal importance is this is a timely reminder to check
manufacturer sites for updates regularly as improvements are constantly
being made. Something I feel is often overlooked as I see many of the
queries on this list are answered by referring the writer to a web page
for the latest version of a particular software.
The latest firmware for 7600 using Ultrachrome inks is BN282a Q and is
available at .......................................
You will also require the Printer Service Utility from same page to
enable you to install the firmware update. I would also strongly
recommend checking out the appropriate Product Service Bulletin as it
make good sense of it all and is clearly laid out. Go to Product Support
Bulletin PSB.2002.08.001.pdf at
....................................................
I hope this is of assistance to some of my my fellow list members as I
have received great value on many occasions from the contributions of
others here.
