I feel there is no need to jump into the LCD "revolution". We get excellent
results with SONY or MITUBISHI monitors in the $600-$800 range. We create
our own hoods with black foam core board. We keep the lightning relatively
low, but light enough to read/write easily. Its also important where you
place the monitor in relationship to the lighting fixtures. I have found
that a fixture directly over or just behind the monitor works well, as
opposed to directly over or behind the user. They also calibrate
beautifully (as the RGB guns can be adjusted individually) and we get
atleast 3yrs of problem free use.
