7. Coloreyes 20/20 - camera profiles (Warren Roos)
What a ringing endorsement of ColorEyes - but I have an issue with the
price etc. This should be bundled software - with film, color management
used to be something Kodak was supposed to do, and did up to a point. Now
that Nikon and Camera have junked the silver print, they should integrate
CM into the supplied pro Raw tools for their cameras- I believe Kodak
actually has done this, but they have a shrinking part of the market. From
the images I see nowadays, I get to feel that the piecemeal nature of the
tools, the fragmented market, are making CM pointless because good color
is neither expected nor delivered. Getting a Macbeth chart in Paris was a
nightmare - We don't need more super-accurate software competing out there
- we need mass-produced cheap spectros and software and targets that come
in the box with every pro camera and photoshop. We certainly do not need
software whose licensing terms actually forbid us from supplying device
profiles to third parties (Eye One anyone ?) - Sorry about the rant -
Here's to freedom of speech, folks and the Best of New Years to you all!
Edmund
