if you ever get any answer from Nikon about this, lemme know.
as far as I can tell, the D1x in tethered mode set to save TIFF or JPEG does
some kind of internal transformation to either sRGB or Adobe 98; even if I
could figure out how to get a "raw" (as opposed to RAW/NEF, which isn't
"raw" as far as I can tell) shot of a Colorchecker out of the thing, there's
no way for me to assign a cam profile to images coming off the cam's
Firewire as it's already sRGB or Adobe 98. you're doomed before you even
start. that doesn't mean I can't get nice results from the camera, but I
think they could be better.
I haven't experimented much with the RAW/NEF format; the files are too large
and transfers too slow for the high-volume school-day work we do and I need
an immediately usable image, not one that has to be post-processed into
TIFF/JPEG.
