I guess what I don't understand is what makes a device appear on a

with the 2930, and the scanner driver (SilverFast Lino Saphir Ultra)
was written for OSX, that - well - it all should work, right? ..or
at least show up as a SCSI device.

FWIW, I have a dual 1G that I purchased from the Apple store last
spring with an ATTO UL3D SCSI board for the (optional) internal SCSI
hard drives and my SCSI 160 stuff. I also got an Adaptec 2930CU in
the bundle to keep my legacy SCSI stuff off of the main SCSI bus.
I never did get the 2930 to work properly. Kernal panics,
unrecognized devices, corruption and confusion of the whole SCSI
peripheral system, you-name-it. I finally gave up and purchased
another ATTO UL3D.
Adaptec has had a terrible time getting their cards to work with OS
X. It took them an even longer time to get cards qualified for
Retrospect (backup software from Dantz), though the AHA-2930CU is now
listed. (I don't know what makes it an AHA.) That surprised me
because I thought that I read that Adaptec weren't going to support
any of their older cards on OS X. You might check with the Adaptec
web site to find out if there is a newer firmware for your card or
newer drivers.
(BTW: If you mean that the Lino isn't showing up as a SCSI device
under System Profiler, then SilverFast doesn't have a chance of
finding it.)
Best wishes,
-=-Dennis
