Hi All:
I am running five 1280's with various inks on CIS's, and am preparing to buy
the 9600. I have bought the Birmy (iProof) RIP, the SpectumPro 4.0 RIP
(ImagePrint), and am now preparing to buy any RIP that I can find that will
fill my needs. I am a fine art digital photographer, and the quality of the
color and acuity of the print are extremely important to me. I have
purchased ProfileMaker 4.n and the EyeOne, and have been cranking out output
profiles for a while now.
As I have been plodding through the learning curve of CM, the importance of
printer linearity when creating output profiles is seeming increasingly
important. From what I am learning (and anyone please contibute if I have
strayed from the path), the less of a "leap" the color management engine has
to make to correct color, the more effectively the information from the
profile can be utilized, and the more "fine tuning" the ourput color
correction system (CM engine and output profile) can perform, as opposed to
having to make gross adjustments for a poorly linearized printer. Also, the
quality of the unmanaged printed target seems to play a major role in what
information the profiling software has accessable to build the profile.
So, having reached this point, I am very anxious to purchase RIP software
that will allow me to use my EyeOne to accurately linearize my printers,
preferably with the curves built directly from reading the printed
linearization target. I also would like the linearization to occur in the
printer driver directly controlling the heads, rather than a pre-driver
software solution that just whacks my data a little more to make
adjustments. Working with all six inks would also be nice. This, I
realize, is a tall order for a 1280 RIP.
I have investigated the ProofMaster RIP, and tried the demo. The folks I
worked with from the vendor have been extremely forthcoming and have bent
over backwards to help me, both here in the US and in Belgium, and the RIP
appears to do everything that I desire, but I am having some difficulty
getting the highest resolutions for the 1280. The ImagePrint RIP that I am
presently using does make 1440 dpi with eight head passes on a 360 dpi
image, but does not have automated linearization, etc. I am also
investigating the Onyx RIP (PosterShop), and am anxious to learn what the
output quality is like on the 1280.
Does anyone have any suggestions on product (or otherwise)?
Thanks (as always, for your help),
Jim
