The D1X raw format, even compressed, has been reverse engineered, and
there is a public domain program that will read it. I have posted a mac
command-line version of David Coffin's utility. Contact me off list and I
will email it to you, complete with the source. It is able to generate
very nice 10 Megapixel 16 bit linear-mode files, which are extrenmely
useful because you can then extract all the info with curves in PS. I have
thought of hacking around with this to do CMS experiments, but lack the
knowlegde; however I think this prgram gets *real* raw info out of the
NEF, and thus would be a suitable place to start. If people here are
interested, please contact me off-list. I can understand that some of the
manufacturers of profiling software might get upset - after all they do
not expect computer science PhDs to work free for their companies.
However, I am getting so angry at the lack of bundled CMS software that I
would donate my time to hack something if you know where to go, and I
suspect other programmers on this list may feel the same.
Edmund
