It has always been my impression that small innovative companies more often
then not produce some of the most cutting edge product. Colorblind is a
great example of this. They were way ahead of everyone else. Now Gretag,
Monaco Integrated Color solutions and others are doing a good job of
producing new and innovative stuff. Notice there is not a printer, camera or
monitor manufacturer in the lot. They clearly are leaving the problem
solving in this product arena to the people who understand it best. Now
since they are in the business of writing color management software and
since most investors expect some sort of return not to mention employees
have some expectations as well, it would appear reasonable for this stuff to
cost money. If you want free software from people who have limited
experience sign up for those bundles, or do it yourself. But you might want
to consider the difficulty involved. If it was easy, all those cheap bundles
would work, but they don't. Rather than moan about the cost, look at the
benefits. If these tools cut production time then they are worth it. If you
don't consider your time valuable then it's a hobby and that D1X is just an
expensive toy.
