I'm well aware of product like TEPs (triprism). It ain't Photoshop but it
has a necessary niche to fill. Does it support ICC profiles?

The speaking engagements my fellow pixel mafia members speak at are usually
aimed at a larger market so there should be plenty of opportunities for
others to solve the issues of event photographers. Getting high end
advertising, corporate and commercial photographers educated is enough of a
chuck for us <g>.
I'm not convinced that Photoshop isn't the right tool for many of these
event people you speak of. Are you suggesting that many/most of these users
will never do any image processing/manipulations? They will only capture and
output? That is certainly a possible (viable) workflow but it's not being
done by a large enough group to be on too many people's radar. I'd prefer to
see Adobe make Photoshop more productive (and that's what Camera Raw does).
There are other areas that need to be addressed but we have to take baby
steps.
Vertical market software is expensive as you've pointed out. There's a
reason for this (the same reason Photoshop can be had for $600). The same
reason a product that makes camera profiles has to cost more than Photoshop.
I'd still like someone like Derrick provide some stat's about the size of
this market if any empirical data is available.
