all things being equal--same working spaces, CM policies, computer (Win2k in
this case but it happens on Macs too) and known-accurate monitor--why would
the same two image files be displayed differently between the two versions
of Photoshop?
I saved the color setup from PS6 and loaded it in PS7 just to be sure.
the files have device profiles in them and I'm telling both versions of PS
to use the embedded profiles for display. in PS7 they look fairly similar
but in PS6 they're quite different in appearance. they should look similar
as one is a conversion from the other (input->output). the profiles were
made with Kodak Colorflow if that matters. I didn't make them nor did I do
the conversions, but I've got a problem if two versions of Photoshop can't
agree e.g. how do I know which is the right on-screen simulation of the
colors in these images. are they really similar like PS7 thinks or are they
way off like PS6 seems to think?
if I tell PS6 to convert them to Adobe 98 on open, save em as such, then
open them in PS7, I get the same visual results as I did in PS6 (a fairly
large difference in appearance). If I do the reverse, in PS6 the images look
as close as they do in PS7.
was there a big change to the display conversion routines in 7 vs. 6? or in
the Adobe 98 profile? I remember there was a small change to that profile
but it seems like that was a long time ago and I'm sure the PS7 installer
would have replaced an older one.
ok actually it's PS6.01 and PS7.01 and sorry if this has been addressed
already.
