Calibrating a LCD Monitor?

Hello, I am new to the group and have a very simple question, I am thinking of purchasing an Apple 22 cinema display. My question is can these LCD's be calibrated and profiled using spider hardware and software accurately? If so, which system is best to purchase? I am a portrait photographer that is switching over to fully digital and would love the desk space.
