Color gamut is a function of printer, ink, media and
software. For proofing applications, the dye ink
versions of the Epson 10600 or 9600 will provide the
largest potential gamut (over 600,000 colors and over
80% of the Pantone(r) book).
From a S/W, RIP perspective, you may want to check out
the new CromaPro(tm) RIP from DuPont. It allows plate
substitution so you are not forced in to a CMYK
workflow even when using matches. You can also
"teach" the RIP custom colors. They also have a new
line of proofing media matched to perform with the RIP
to optimize gamut and system repeatability.
