Yikes! I don't think so...but you're more than welcome to void your
warranty and try it! I have a feeling the printheads on that printer were
made with the pigmented inks in mind, but I could be wrong. You're probably
better off finding a second hand 1280 on eBay or something!

I'm rather fond of the Solux bulbs (filtered tungsten I think)...they are
pretty damn close to daylight and are ideal for displaying fine art prints
at home or in a gallery. Thanks to Dan Reid for bringing them to my
attention!

Not sure about that...but probably pretty accurate!

Is the output from the 2100/2200 affected by lighting as much as the
2000p?
I've never had any direct experience with the 2000P, but my 2200 prints
have the metamerism problem to some extent. Interestingly enough the
problem isn't as evident on fine art papers, and I'm guessing this is
because the inks settle into the paper a bit deeper than commercial papers.
Anyone else care to comment on this?
You will certainly want to take final viewing conditions into account. The
best you can really do is correct under known and stable conditions, like a
5000K lightbox, and explain to whoever is receiving them that they will not
look right unless they are displayed under those same conditions (or
something close to it, like Solux bulbs). These new Ultrachrome inks are
pretty slick, but dyes still win when it comes to battling metamerism.
