Henrik, thanks for the info about OSX - I definitely appreciate it. Sounds like things have come together since I first started looking at switching. I'm glad!
"You don't need Adobe Type Manager under OS 10 and later."
Actually, I use ATM Deluxe for font management and would use Font Reserve for the same thing. It's just much easier and less of a hassle that way.
"The Adobe Graphics Model built into OS 10 is a subset of the AGM
constructs in Adobe authoring software and does not support some of the
extended multi-media constructs of PDF either."
This is a bit over my head, but from what I gather, you're saying the OSX without Acrobat is not as robust as adding Acrobat to the mix - right?
"Personally, I like the fact that Preview skips annotations, but I would
beware of using Preview as soft proof for PDF destined for print for
the same reason."
Actually, thanks to your advice to help reassure my decision ;-), I just finished partitioning my internal 120GB drive and reinstalling OSX 10.2.1. I've used Preview for reading the ReadMe and other files that come with the install. I have to say that I love how quick it comes up, but I would not use it for softproofing or anything related - just a quick way to view a PDF's contents.
Thanks again to you and the others for the useful input on making the OSX transition. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. So far I have to say that I love working in X - it's just so beautiful to look at and fun to work with...
