Hi Again...
As i was poking around the EFI site (
http://www.efi.com/ ) i saw that
they have recently announced plans to acquire Best GmbH (
http://www.bestcolor.com/bcintns/presse/archiv/p_dec2002.htm ). Since
Best & EFI both provide competing RIP solutions, and we're budgeted for
an Epson 7600 to provide contract proofs for our design department, i
wanted to ask for some advice.
In the past, the prevailing perception of the EFI RIPs was that they
were too proprietary and acted as a kind of 'black box' making it hard
to integrate into RGB based ICC workflows.
BestColor RIP, which we purchased for our Epson 5500, is quite
powerful, works well in our RGB based ICC workflow... but it's a total
bear to set-up and maintain -- due mostly to the fact that the manual
totally blows and the interface is almost as bad.
For the Epson 7600 EFI now has the new Fiery Spark Professional 2.0 RIP
and considering that EFI is in the process of acquiring the BestColor
line of RIPs it raises some interesting issues. Should we stick with
our BestColor RIP and upgrade for the Espon 7600 (and hope the EFI
works on the printed manual and interface [and a OSX version])... or is
the new Fiery RIP a better option?
Any and all advice is much appreciated!
Thanks,
-iE
