Hi...
We've been using a Xerox Phaser 7700gx for about a year to support our
design department, but our printing volume has climbed to about 6000
prints a month (with more growth virtually assured) and the Phaser has
become completely unstable colour-wise... leaving us profiling multiple
times each day chasing the laser printer about as it shifts colour.
We're currently investigating a Xerox DocuColour 12 Copier / Printer +
Splash G630 Colour RIP as a replacement. But, needless to say, this
option is considerably more expensive than a high end colour laser
printer. Does anyone on the list have practical experience with this
solution? It would particularly good to know:
1. Does the DocuColour 12 remain stable over time? How often does it
require hardware calibration and profiling?
2. Is the print quality comparable to a high end laser printer like the
Phaser 7700?
3. Is the Splash G630 RIP entirely ICC based, or is there some
proprietary issue to muck thing up (we have the
SpectroLino/SpectroScanT + ProfileMaker 4.1 set of tools we want to
use)?
4. Are there any issues working out of Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign &
Photoshop?
5. What kind of 'gotchas' should one know about in advance of
purchasing this solution?
Thanks much in advance!
