Very Interesting!

Yes. Long phone conversation with John about six months ago resulted in that
little tidbit. They really play their cards pretty close to their chests
don't they? It makes complete sense though - they don't want end users
mucking about too much on the outbound leg. So I think one might usefully
explore converting files to Lab before sending to IP.
One might also think in terms of profiling IP with all its color manaagement
turned on and all its profiles properly in place in order to get a profile
useful for the return trip leg ie: accurate view-proof setup in PShop. The
RGB to Lab tag - right? Don't really know how to properly do that. I can't
imagine that the IP profiles would give anything like an accurate Lab to RGB
trip in Photoshop so useless there. Have not tested to be sure.
What they are doing is not at all like what is going on in other icc
workflows. It's because standard separation ideas just flat don't work right
with these type of printers. It's a whole different deal.
Have not tested these ideas yet. Right now I'm busy with frozen pipes!
Nick
