Andrews statements of "..passes through the RIP without regard to paper
profile" and "the paper profile isn't doing a thing" are 100% wrong.
The Proof:
1) ImagePrint media profile sets the colorengine's colorspace (Its is doing
a lot of things-"not on your image, but for other functions"). Test it:
DISABLE ALL you input profiles, as if you were going to print a profile
target. If you have a RGB media profile selected and print and untagged RGB
Target - your fine. If you have a CMYK media Profile select and you print a
untagged CMYK target - Your Fine. IF you have a mismatch such as a RGB media
profile and your try to print an untagged CMYK target - you get Black
jumbled box for Preview & Print.
2) Cris Daniel Posts elude to the fact many other options in ImagePrint are
tied together - more than we know
3) Colorbyte's programmers will also confirm doing things that Andrew says
will cause alot of things to get totally screwed
How does this apply to sean fitzgerald:
1) If he was printing a cmyk profile target or a CMYK job he "would not have
printed at all" because there most likely been a RGB media profile selected
that does effect things.
2) If he also didn't disable the CMYK input profile and printing a CMYK
Target - he would having been print a profile with the icc media profile
applied.
3) Disabling Imageprint and doing manual profile conversions in Photoshop
will cause problems.
A) If Perceptual was used in Photoshop and you believe ColorByte & Thomas
Knoll then the Image is converted with flaws
B) What is the correct rendering intent and white/black paper setting to
print correctly - you have 20 some combinations
C) Depending on the device driver used - a lot more things are disabled or
confused
WHY SO HARD on CMYK - Because of the dozens of posts months ago that
generally said "to recommend profiling a CcMmYK printer as an RGB device is
lunacy.". I see a lot of people have switched sides after see/playing with
Imageprint
The Correct way to Profile ImagePrint is:
Set ALL you Input Profiles (RGB & CMYK) (VECTOR & BITMAP) Boxes to NONE
Why all? because you want to fully disable the colorengine
Why Vector also? Because you can have a EPS DCS RGB or CMYK Vector Target
from Gretag Profilemaker or a Raster/Vector combination target.
The Trap: Your media profile must be of the same type(RGB or CMYK) as the
Target you are printing. So if you have an RGB media Profile in the system
pane - you cannot print a cmyk target - it previews & prints black.
ImagePrint depends on its media profile for Colorspace when all of its Input
Tabs are set to none.
WHY WAS THIS SO IMPORTANT - Because the media profile will become very
important (hint, hint) and so poor Daniel doesn't have a heartattack, from
answering the same questions, and untangling everyone's messes 100's of
times per day.
If anyone thinks they have a better way -- email the guys at Colorbyte their
pretty cool about looking at new ideas. Many of guys at Colorbyte have
stopped by endusers all over the US to make sure ImagePrint works in all
kinds of situations in the real world -- John sat down with me.... . I
thinks that's great. Not like all those companies who have had 1000's of
complaints and genius's spending months trying to fix the flaws - they could
care less about doing anything for us customers who spend lots of money.
