During the May meeting of the San Francisco Digital Imaging Group (SFDIG), a
crowd of 100+ learned about the state-of-the art in display technology and
monitor calibration from Karl Lang, (Product Architect for the Sony
Artisan), Son Do (Rods & Cones), and Rob Gailbratih (robgalbraith.com). Tom
Kunhardt of Kodak also presented the new 14n digital SLR. Thanks to Sony
and Kodak for sponsoring the pizza and soda.
The next SFDIG meeting will be held Tues., July 15th at 6:30 PM at Blue Sky
Rental Studios (2325 3rd St, suite # 434). The topic is 3Adobe InDesign for
Layout and Prepress.2 We have a great group or speakers:
- Lonn Lorenz, Adobe9s print guru and former president of the San Francisco
Craftman9s Club, who will be offering a brief tour of InDesign and answering
questions.
- Brad Zucroff, Art Director for 3America 24/72, part of the 3Day in the
Life2 series of photo books. He will discussing his use of InDesign for
this massive photo layout project.
- John Franco, Prepress Manager at Anderson Litho, one of the largest and
most prestigious printers in the West. John has been a beta tester of
InDesign since version 1, and he also served as a beta tester for Quark 6.
He will be able to address the burning question: InDesign 2 or Quark 6?
And if you can9t get enough of InDesign and/or color management, you might
want to check out the July 9 meeting of the San Francisco InDesign Users
Group (IDUG). Go to www.indesignusergroup.com to learn more about it.
Also the SFDIG website is starting to take form - www.sfdig.org. Keep your
eyes open for job postings and an events calendar.
For those who have not yet had a chance to contribute, we will continue to
collect a voluntary $20 annual membership fee to cover ongoing costs, such
as pizza, soda, and chair rental/purchase. Please make your checks out to
SFDIG.
The one-hour pre-meeting tutorial "Digital Imaging Basics", last time

the class will be conducted by Sean Duggan, co-author of "Photoshop 7
Artistry, Mastering the Digital Image" (New Riders); co-author of "Real
World Digital Photography", 2nd Edition, to be published in late 2003
(Peachpit Press); www.seanduggan.com.

SFDIG is open to all professionals involved in digital imaging, such as

power user or industry expert discussing a specific element of their digital
workflow. The intention is to help attendees develop their knowledge of
"best practices" in digital imaging and to provide a forum for discussion
with colleagues. In addition, each meeting will feature a short product
demonstration related to the topic being discussed.
Bring yourself, your ideas, your war stories, and your enthusiasm. If have
questions about the upcoming meeting, please email John Martin at
email@hidden. If you'd like to be added to or removed from the
