I guess there are only painful ways to deal with it as I found out too.

I really wish that the industry people would get together for pizza and beer
or something, and agree on a simple text protocol. We are not talking about
high technology and lots of money invested in hardware and development cost.
A programmer could add the new "standard" protocol to the existing software
in a couple of hours.

Software/ hardware people, please have pity on us poor users.
