We've adopted a RGB scanning in most of our work. I am looking at completing the project, taking RGB scanning to our high end agency work.
This group does not car much for change; icc profiles, digital proofing, etc. So they look for the slightest thing to state - RGB scanning is not possible.
I have created/tested many profiles, both input and output. and the one drawback I see is the way CMYK separations look after being converted from RGB. While UCR/GCR seem to work much better in the RGB workflow (I was always battling the Crosfield scanner to make gray transitions smoother.) The actual seps appear quite different.
Has anyone really looked at the the CMYK conversion? I have no problem with the color, just the way the separations look. I see it as a new mindset, I am used to scanner separations, but they have their own characteristic as well. However I do have to sell this new process to the production folks.
Many Thanks
Dane Carlson
