I recently purchased a Sony Artisan monitor. I currently use it with a
PowerBook Ti G4 500. New Mac desktop is on order. For some time now I
have only used the PB screen. I noticed the problem described below
shortly after I started to use the Artisan. At first I thought it was
my imagination. I called Sony and they sent a replacement monitor that
also exhibited the same problem. I returned the replacement monitor.
Now I am trying to understand what is going on. Is it the monitor, my
computer, me or something else?
Sony Artisan problem:
On a white or light colored screen (such as a blank web browser screen)
there are faint red/green phosphors moving slowly like a cloud on the
back of the glass (green is in center, circular approx. size of the
Artisan puck and red is around the green center, also circular and it
fits within the rectangle of the physical screen, then green is in
corners of screen). It looks like a large donut on the screen. This
color cast does not appear in Photoshop when an image is open or other
applications that color manage documents. Any help in explaining this
would be appreciated. Sony tech support does not know how to explain
this situation. I tested monitor attached to new 12" powerbook with
the same result. I don't have a desktop Mac or Windows machine to test
with at this time. Help...
Also, a new problem has appeared. A white fleck/speck started to
appear about 1/4 of screen width from the left edge of screen when a
dark image or dark color covers a large portion of desktop. White
speck or fleck moves from bottom to top or top to bottom of screen not
sure which at this point (like scan gun working its way over screen).
It is not always visible though.
And, the startup test message (white, red, blue green) that appears
when monitor is started before computer does not exhibit either
problem. I don't seem to have the white speck moving up and down on a
calibration screen either, but I do see the faint coloration.
I would appreciate any insight on these problems.
Cheers,
John
