Hi Jeffery,
You can download PDF data sheets from the Philis website regarding these
lamps. I am currently using the F32T8/TL950 bulbs in our prepress,
pressroom, and press check rooms. I got some SPD graphs from Gretag
regarding their bulbs and compared them with the graphs on the data
sheets from Philips. The fact that Philips displays SPD graphs on their
data sheets for the TL90 and Colortone series of bulbs but not on the
Alto series of bulbs is a hint to me that the Alto bulbs are not well
suited for color critical viewing. The bulbs should last you more than 2
years. Unless you have multiple thousands of bulbs to purchase, I would
encourage you to go with the TL90 bulbs and not the Altos. I would look
at the 5000K Alto bulbs as good for very large offices that want light
that is easier on their eyes than normal fluorescent bulbs, not as a
proofing bulb. I talked with a product manager at Philips and he said
that you definitely want the TL90 for proofing, that it was designed for
that. I would strongly suspect that the Alto bulbs have fewer phosphors
than the TL90 bulbs, which would mean larger spikes on the SPD graph,
which would in turn lead to certain colors being exagerrated more
strongly than a bulb with more phosphors and smaller spikes in the SPD.
That is Gretags selling point with their bulbs, that they have 7
phosphors which produces smaller spikes.
Good luck,
Abe Hayhurst

Hello,
I need to purchase 5000K fluorescent bulbs for our studios and for soft
proofing in our digital print media labs. I've been looking at Philips
F32T8's, we must use F32's because of our ballasts. I am unsure of what
is
acceptable CRI and design lumens among the range of bulbs they offer.
The F32TA/ADV/850/ALTO seems to fit our desire for a decent CRI, Lumens,
bulb life and it's environmentally friendly. The F32T8/TL950 has a
better
CRI but seems lacking in other features. Would much be sacrificed if we
went with the F32TA/ADV/850/ALTO's lower CRI?
Here is a web link to the bulbs I've been comparing:

If these are not appropriate do you have other suggestions for bulbs. An
off the shelf softproofing light box would be simple solution to the
softproofing issue, but is too expensive at this time.
Thanks,
