The difference between a CRI of 86 and one of 98 is... night and day. The
reduced life, and significantly reduced luminance are both probably directly
caused by the process that improves the color balance. In color rendering terms
you are comparing a rusty old Ford with a Porche. Excessive brightness in color
balanced lighting is not desirable in locations where computer monitors are
being used, anyhow...
