In the March/April edition of PEI, Paul Caponigro described how to
proof a file on an inkjet printer as if it was printed on an offset
press. This was told to him by Bruce Fraser. I tried it with two
different CMYK working space settings, both of which did not match
the straight RGB print. This is a portrait of a man in a black shirt.
The info palette tells me that the RGB numbers for the shirt are all
equal, a neutral black. The RGB print (without the print with
preview) matches my monitor and the black appears very neutral and
saturated. The CMYK versions are muddier and warmer. Also, the blue
in the sky is less saturated and warmer and the skin tones are a
little greener. I am using the same printer profile as I do for the
RGB prints and use no color adjustment in the Advanced settings of
the Epson (1280) driver. I am sending this file to a book publisher
for use on the man's new novel and for promotional needs. I told them
I would send them both RGB and CMYK files. Should I do any more
correcting of the file to be assured that it doesn't print like my
"Print With Preview" prints, or should I trust that the printer (s)
will know what to do to make it look like I see it on screen and with
straight RGB printing? And/Or should I send them a straight RGB print
as a proof to match? This is all in PS7 and Mac 9.2. Thanks.
