In defense of BEST's implementation of GhostScript, I can tell you that this
RIP will practically take anything you can throw at it. In fact, in my
experience, I can say that I never had a single PostScript error in all the
documents I've printed with it, be it Photohop, Illustrator or InDesign
(sorry I don't do Quark).

I can tell you that the quality of linearization is a critical factor in
determining the success or failure of any profiling, IMHO. BEST's
linearization is certainly one of the better ones among all RIPs in the
market today. But, in all fairness, I've heard good things about the
ColorBurt and the Cyclone RIP. I just never had the chances to try those
first hand.
