At this time I don't question the usefulness of the ACD. It is
Apple's support for this product that I seriously question. I have
seen them fail pretty regularly after a years use about six so far.
Apple's support in each case has been a nightmare for all involved. I
might add apple's warranty (1 year) and dead pixel replacement policy
does not measure up well with many other manufacturers in the industry.
Its something I warn clients about when they ask about purchasing an
ACD. I have had Mitsubishi CRT's (three year warranty) go bad and had
a replacement on my doorstep the next morning. I think they understand
the needs of professionals better then Apple does at this moment. I
had client with a bad ACD backlight went 18 months old. Sent it for
repair $1300 bill I was told, 5-6 week turn around. He purchased a
replacement ACD so he could continue working it has the same problem as
the original poster noted as well as start issues. I'm not rushing out
to buy one.
