At work we have the Spectralino and I9m starting to use it for simple color
look ups (cmyk). As a Photographer I was wanting to read the GreytagMacbeth
color charts and substitute the general reference file with my actual
readings to help build better camera profiles. I start to wonder about how
accurate this particular device is, (handled by lots of people). Does it
need a technician to verify its accuracy every year or is that done
automatically? They must drift in the manufacturing from one unit to
another so how critical or anal should a photographer get when it comes to
camera profiles? After all, the conversion from RGB to CMYK is probably
more important. BTW, I shoot clothing catalogs where Color Accuracy is
KING.
The Separators that I9m joined with have a Epson 7000 (imagination
ColorMatch rip) that they have not liked. Profiles drift too much. Is
that an Ink oxidation issue or are they not waiting long enough to allow the
inks to settle, dry, oxidize before they profile?
Thanks for these answers and all that I have read in the past.
