A friend has asked me to build output profiles for his Epson 2200
using my
EyeOne. He will be printing Quark files (I see in "Real World Color
Management" that Quark v4.1 is problematic at best, and he should
upgrade to
v.5).
Will Epson's RIP for the 2200 be sufficient for this task? Also, I
see that the Epson RIP is not OS 10 compatible. Does it run in Classic
mode? Many thanks for your advice!
It might work, I haven't tried it. I'd be interested in knowing if it's
running in Classic if it's available to native OS X applications on the
same machine. I'd be surprised if that's the case. I think this is a
dead end solution, but it might be inexpensive enough to tolerate as a
short term solution and get something else in a year or so.
Then again, he could go on the truly bleeding edge, get QuarkXPress 6,
and then load the Gimp Print drivers for the 2200 along with
Ghostscript and viola he has a native RIP solution for his 2200, as
well as QuarkXPress 6.
What I can't vouch for at all, even though I'm less than 30 miles away
from Quark, is what color management is like in QuarkXPress 6 because I
haven't been able to get a copy of any sort.
