I believe the front panel media setting (at least on mine) changes the
dot pattern for the selected media. The ink limit is controlled by the
rip. Changing the dot pattern certainly has an affect on the ink limits
we choose during calibration though I've never experimented with using a
wrong media selection to see what the effect is.
I appreciate the issue of too much ink on the paper we have a similar
issue. Most of the papers used in the two sided printing approach for
"digital dylux" are not designed for accurate color. These are intended
to be imposition proofs. Duponts paper is very thin.
I'd suggest looking at the Mitsubishi paper which is much heavier. More
like a 100 lb text weight. That's what we use but we feed sheets instead
of putting it on a roll.
