I am using a SpinJet 5500 which is a HP DesignJet 5500 with dye inks. I
am currently using the Dupont Digital Dylux material. I am attempting to
get reasonably pleasing color, while at the same time reducing the ink
enough so that the paper does not distort and the proofs back up
accurately. I am having to set my per channel ink limit at 50% and the
total ink limit of my profile at 270% in order to keep the paper from
becoming dimensionally unstable and rippling due to the amount of ink
being laid down on the paper. This results in a severly limited gamut,
especially in luminance. The problem is compounded by the fact that the
HP 5500 automatically separates CMYK into CcMmYK. I have not found any
way to disable this. The SpinFlow software which drives the machine does
not offer any control over it either. Does anyone know of a way on the
printer to disables or reduce the use of light cyan and light magenta.
The proof would look grainier using only dark cyan and dark magenta, but
it would allow me to achieve a larger gamut.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a different media to use that would
allow me to put more ink on the paper and still maintain dimensional
stability?
