You can also avoid all of this stuff and invest in a good RIP like
ImagePrint or Colorburst. The profiles that ship with ImagePrint are
very
good for being "generic" and is actually the RIP I am currently using
for
high-end output on my 2200. The Epson software is very limiting and you
will quickly discover (as I did) the limitations. If you are serious
about
quality then a RIP is almost unavoidable.
I long ago discovered the limitations of the Epson software; knowing
which way to go has been the problem. <g>
Thanks for the info. The iCColor (gulp) is still $3000, plus
Profilemaker Output ($1800), is about $5000. I'll go there
if I have to, but... it's a bite.
I'll check out the Fuji modules - there's no pricing info on the www
site, and you must submit a request to get any meaningful info back.
I noticed that the ImagePrint RIP supports the Epson 9600 ($2500), but
it seems a different version is needed for the Epson $2200 ($500).
True? Or will the RIP for the large-format printers also drive the
2200? I assume this is really just a licensing issue... but $500 is
$500...
Now, does the ImagePrint RIP get profiled in CMYK? I would assume it
still needs to be profiled.
I think I'm getting closer. Thanks to all for the advice.
