Unlike the 7000>7500, 9000>9500 there is a hardware difference
between the 5000>5500. The 5500 has heads + firmware that produce
finer + variable droplet sizes. All kinds of inks can be used in
the 7500/9500 including dye inks, it is also possible to drive
the 7500/9500 models with the Epson 7000/9000 drivers (not the
Status Monitor though). Clogging problems are like you will get
with the 7000/9000 but the x500 printers have some extra cleaning
modes so they can cope better with cloggs.
Very true,
I am using since more than a year Lyson inks in this machine.
I profiled the Epson printer driver and using Image Print with it as well.
(custom profiled IP gives me far more accurate and reliable colours from
screen to print, even using Lyson inks)
There's nothing against using a 5500 with dye inks but you need a
special driver to control the inklimits etc. The Epson 5500
driver extends the black generation like David mentions, that was
done to reduce metamerism. I'm not sure whether there was an
earlier version of the 5500 driver like there was
Yes there was, I have the earlier version which is putting far less black
down than the later version, so better to use this one with Dye-inks.
I've written before that the 5500 could be a very nice dye
printer with the more fadeproof 10000 type Epson dye ink.
That sounds a good idea,
Are these inks more fade resistant than Lyson inks?
