There is an update of i1 Match, 2.02, up on the i1color site. Let's hope
it retains the interface "features" which make the Mac version
of Match such a delight to use... for masochists.
- Going round in circles after the strips are done, asking for "better"
patch measurements. How about a quality indicator ?
- Not indicating the end of a set of strip measurements, sticking on the
last row, (row 34 of the Atkinsons) so I believe I skipped a row, panic
and start the whole grid over again.
- Not providing ANY feedback during measurement, so you never know what
you are doing wrong. When I have to measure the same strip 5 times in a
row I would appreciate for the error of my ways to be explained to me.
BTW, I have a feature request for i1 share measure tool, which would
consist of a window consisting of a spreadsheet-type grid with the last N
measurements, no cute interface, apart from a color square next to each
row maybe. This would be more useful to me than all the interface icandy.
I quite realise that Gretag's software is functional with respect to its
output. However, i1 Match needs an ergonomics consultant, and at the very
least a decent beta test using novices rather than seasoned users who are
happy with its quirks, and just demand quality output. And, for the
sceptics, here is the remark of an IBM "Director" whom I interviewed many
years ago, when I complained about the command-line interface on PCs: "We
are not children, we do not need mice".
