Not to belabour this further, but try looking up the illustrations in
the soft-proofing color cookbook on the ColorSync home page. Overall
the answer depends on the make of the separation profile and the nature
of the image. Perceptual will if built with ProfileMaker give better
shadow detail compared to Relative Colorimetric. Chroma will be
retained differently depending on the gamut mapping setting with which
the ProfileMaker profile was built. Relative Colorimetric will behave
differently depending on the setting for Black Point Compensation.
Saturation is not often used for separations. For contract proofing
with Lab to Lab control strip comparison Absolute Colorimetric is used,
for position proofing Relative Colorimetric without Black Point
Compensation may be used.
