I agree. Sure, a Tango would be nice but expensive and who knows what kind
of support you'll get since Heidelberg is out of the scanner business. The
848 is really a nice unit, especially with the bulk loader should you be
doing a lot of production. It still can't match the quality of a true PMT
drum scanner like the Tango but I suspect for 95% of the work you'll scan,
you'll never see the difference. The 848 is fast (50mb a second is the
claimed spec and that's really close to what I'm getting). Does a good job
on color negs if you know how to handle the software.
I had a ScanMate 5000 for years and loved it. I think you'll like working
with the Imacon since tape and gel are a thing of the past (although you CAN
gel mount with their optional Damage Repair kit).
