I highly recommend the Nexscan. We have about 20 of them and they are solid,
reliable machines, but 99.9% of everything we scan is reflective so I really
can't say if it does well with transparencies and negatives.
I would run, not walk, from the Mac version (2.5.x) of Newcolor (which
requires OS X) as it is unacceptably buggy and unstable. Linocolor 6 (OS 9)
works well and is what we use to drive our Nexscans but that product is dead
as the dodo so you'd be better off with a fast Wintel and Newcolor for
Windows.
