Onyx Postershop calibration for RGB workflows

I was shown some print samples that were produced from RGB Photoshop files
and output to an Epson 9600 using a Postershop RIP.
The results weren't that impressive. A large number of images had loads of
neutral RGB values - they were way too warm.
I took a look over the manuals and got the impression that:
1. The RIP really wasn't intended for people who only want RGB workflow
2. They manufacturers aren't that keen on having end users calibrate the RIP
- there certainly didn't appear to be enough information in the manual to
make it possible.
I made a *quick-fix* RGB profile that could be used to transform the RGB
data in Photoshop prior to sending it to the RIP. It corrected the neutrals
but caused banding in solid blues.
The client loves the grays and now wants me to profile the device properly -
but I don't want to take the project on if it's going to be a pain :-(
Anybody have any tips on how to get the best from this RIP/Proofer combo
with RGB source data?
Or is there some more thorough on-line documentation available somewhere?
Regards
