new Canon printers

I know this is heresy but:

Would anyone care to share their experiences on color (quality and management) with the 6-color Canon printers? I am thinking specifically of the i950 (the 13" version i9100 seems to not be available yet) and the s9000. My experience so far has been with Epsons almost exclusively. Any comments, on or off list, are welcome.

To explain where I'm coming from (away from the Epsons): I'm after both color and monochrome prints on glossy papers and...

1) I don't like the look of the Epson pigments (1000CF) on papers approaching glossy surfaces (especially in highlights). (This printer pre-dates UltraChrome, but UltraChrome is still not recommended for glossy papers.)
2) The Epson dyes (890/1280) are probably fine for color images on glossy papers (except for slight black issues, perhaps), but for monochrome images they exhibit significant tonal shifts in areas with differing densities. Also, there were a lot of problems with these printers when they were first introduced, if I recall correctly.

ImagePrint is not an option for monochrome printing for me. It isn't available for the Epson dye printers (nor the Canon printers), nor for MacOS 9.

Feel free to disagree with any of the above. My experience is limited.

By the way: I found a hint on Cone's website that his soon-to-be new b&w system (using ICC profiles) will enable B&W glossy printing using the Canon printers (only?), something currently not recommended with the Epson printers. The sample print I got on a matte or fine art paper using an Epson and the old/current Cone system looks great, but it's not the look I'm after, ie it's not glossy...

If anyone can provide sample prints (Epson or Canon) that can convince me one way or another, I'd be interested. I'm located in the Washington, DC area.

Thank you.

Armand
