We just finished testing the i950, it's super. It prints sooo fast with
excellent quality through the Canon driver. RGB profiles built with PM 4.1.1
worked great on a varity of media from Epson, Ilford and BestColor. When
viewed in ColorThink 3D, the Canon profiles have a nice shape without any
missing or 'caved in' areas like the Epson 1270-80 profiles usually have in
the warm shadow areas. The Canon also prints a nice yellow which plots very
close to the b* axis as opposed to the Epsons warm rendition of primary
yellow.
The final prints from the Canon looked excellent with very little or no
tonal banding in the really tough shadow areas that the Epson printer/driver
usually chokes on. The Canon prints showed excellent grey balance (that's
right) and black and white prints look pretty darn good when just using the
Canon driver with a good profile. Quality will probably improve even more
when a serious rip otion becomes available. The i9100 will replace the
Epsons we currently use for proofing as the quality of the Canon driver was
equal to or better than the quality we are getting with a 1280/rip combo.
The printing speed, individual ink tanks, and user servicability made the
i9100 the obvious choice.
We pre-ordered our i9100 today for $433, they said it would be here in about
2 weeks. We also called Canon US who said the i9100's should be in stores by
May 15.
Anybody want a used Epson...or 2.

I know this is heresy but:
Would anyone care to share their experiences on color (quality and
management) with the 6-color Canon printers?
