ProfileMaker Pro and video card LUTs

I'm noticing that even though I have presumably calibrated my display to
100% of its achievable luminance I still see a dimming of the monitor when
I log into OS X. Anybody have a clue as to what might be going on? Its not
the end of the world as I still get a good luminance, but I'm more curious
as to why this would happen if I am asking for 100% of what the monitor is
capable of.
