There's three or four monitors which are consistently well recommended.
You should be able to do well with an LCD, although I'd recommend
searching the archives for more detail as this has been discussed in
the recent past:
LCDs:
Eizo 985EX (Finally available in the US)
New Apple 20" Cinema Display (although probably won't work without
~$130 adaptor)
Tubes:
Sony Artisan
Lacie Electron 22Blue IV (or the Mitsubishi tube they OEM...don't know
which one off the top of my head)
Whatever your choice, though, don't skimp out and omit a monitor
calibration hardware/software combo if your purchase doesn't include
one or you don't have one that will be compatible with LCDs. This has
also been recently discussed on the list, so you should be able to find
lots of good info. I'd probably spring for the new Gregtag kit.

I have a need to update my windows computer and monitor and would like
to
know which monitors are being recommended for digital imaging
(Photoshop
stuff). I'm a commercial/portrait photographer and have been using a
LaCie
19" Blue for the past 3 years. As much as I would like the Sony
Artisan, I do
not have the desk space.
Which Sony's and Mitsubishi's models should I look at? Any other
brands worth
considering?
I'm also torn between CRT and LCD. I know CRT's still have the edge,
but I
also know many are using the LCD's successfully. Any recommendations
here,
too?
Thanks for your time in responding.
