Hi.
I have a question about networking my desktop G4 to the PowerBook I've
just ordered.
My desktop machine is a dual-800 MHz G4 on which I run PhotoShop 6 in
native OS9. Most of my work consists of 4x5's pieced together (2-7 of
them) to print as panoramas up to 100" wide on an EP 7600. I have
created my own printer profiles using ColorBlind software, and
everything works fine -- I get the color I expect.
I recently bought a FinePix S2, and now have ordered a PowerBook to dump
its files into, rather than spending money on more memory cards. I've
also had the idea that I could use the PowerBook as a print server for
the 7600, since feeding the huge files to the printer, even after
they've been spooled, drags down the G4's performance greatly. But the
PowerBook will not run OS9 at all, so I will have to put Photoshop 7 on
it. They do say I should be able to network the two via airport even
while running the different versions.
So here's my question: If I install Photoshop 7 and the OSX version of
the 7600 print driver on the laptop, and copy my existing printer
profiles into the proper place in OSX, should my prints come out with
the color I expect them to have? In essence, I think I'm asking if,
file location aside, color management works the same in OSX as in OS9.
Or will I have to create new profiles for some obscure reason?
Any wisdom would be very much appreciated.
