Chris,
Within the CFM there are 4 options for black generation
1) Retain Black - In this case the CFM will override the settings in the
destination profile, and retain the black information in your file, for
example a 20% black drop shadow will print using only black.
2) UCR - In this case the CFM will override the settings in the destination
profile, and use the settings you select in the CFM control panel.
3) GCR - In this case the CFM will override the settings in the destination
profile, and use the settings you select in the CFM control panel.
4) Use Destination profile - In this case the settings in the destination
profile will be used.
Based on our testing we recommend that you use either UCR or GCR, to
maintain a balance between image neutrality and image quality, additionally
this option allows you to change black generation settings on the fly
between jobs without creating a new profile.

Is anyone on this list familiar with the Kodak Polychrome Graphics Color
Fidelity Module? (formerly Imation Color Fidelity Module) We have a KPG
Matchprint Color RIP system (which is basicaly a BestColorproof with this
Color Fidelity Module) driving an Epson 7600. I've been trying to dig up
some technical info on the CFM but there doesn't appear to be much.
I'm curious about how the settings applied in the CFM control panel relate
to the black generation information in a destination profile.
For example, when a CMYK destination profile is created in ProfileMaker, one
step in the creation process is to specify the black generation settings,
UCR, GCR, Black Start, Black Limit, etc.
The Kodak Polychrome Graphics CFM control panel allows you to adjust the
same settings.
What exactly is being altered in this control panel? Do the control panel's
black generation settings conflict with/ad to/subtract from the black
generation settings embedded in a profile? Does the CFM ignore the profile's
black generation information altogether when doing color conversions?
Thanks
Chris McFarling
