My experience has been that it's possible to get identical results
from the 2100/2200 in OS9 and OS X. One key factor seems to be that
when you install a new Epson driver, you have to manually remove all

described here...
This is interesting. This afternoon I verified that *part* of the
problem lies with printing in MacOS X. And in fact, with the canned
profiles.
I booted into Mac OS 9 for the first time, in probably 6 months, and
printed from PS. The problems with 'solarizing' (for want of a better
discription) and the lines (which look like the heads are dirty ... but
in fact aren't! ) were gone. However, I tried every computation I
could think of in the Print Dialog, but no matter what I did, under 9,
every print came out a delightful shade of *pink*.
Once back in X, I had been told by a colleague, that the Matt
Heavyweight PK profile is the best one to use ... and sure enough,
under X using this profile *despite* the actual paper used, cured most
of the problems of 'solarizing' and completely cured the problems of
'lines' (like dirty heads). However, the quality is still not that
great. *:(
Somewhere, between Adobe and Epson and Apple, this is a total shambles.
Nevertheless, I'm encouraged by two pieces of advice. 1/... that
Panther may have solved some of these difficulties (hopefully all) and
2/ that, as you inform us Bruce, the problems may be due problems of
'legacy' files. All of which, as *paying* customers, we shouldn't be
dealing with.... sadly, we probably will for years to come.
Would you mind, Bruce, giving us some pointers regarding which 'legacy'
files need to be removed, prior to reinstalling the Epson drivers? Do
we need to clear out the Classic drivers too? (Knowing that the OS
'sees' the profiles).
