As Steve mentioned last month, the Sony Artisan is unexplainably lacking
support for multiple displays. How can such an expensive monitor, aimed at
imaging professionals, that everyone seems to be hailing as the new gold
standard, not support dual monitors?
Making the Sony my main monitor temporarily works to get it calibrated, but
it's a hassle that my LaCie's didn't put me through for half the price. It
wouldn't be so bad if the monitor control panel were scriptable so I could
automate my start-up routine (I'm still running 9.2.2 because Fuji is dragging
their feet getting me passwords to run ColourKit in OSX). Is the monitor
system preference scriptable in OSX?
To add to my frustration, my Sony is preventing me from calibrating my
pallette monitors (22" LaCie Electron Blue 2s & 3s) with both the LaCie
software/puck and Gretag Macbeth Eye One Match/Eye One spectrophotometer. I
have to completely disconnect my Sony to get the calibration software to
recognize the LaCie. I've spoken with 2 Gretag reps, one pointed at Sony and
the other pointed at Apple. Running 2 Artisans on one computer seems
unthinkable at this point.
I bought 6 Artisans with plans for 6 more, but I haven't even unpacked 3 of
the Artisans in case they need to go back. The first 3 out of the box had
geometry problems and noticeable landing issues. I am still trying to
determine if the landing problems are power or magnetic field related.
While I'm complaining, how can Sony require 2 open USB ports and not provide a
built in hub? My LaCie's have it for, once again, half the price.
I've seen nothing but glowing reviews for these monitors, is anyone else
silently feeling the same disappointment and frustration?
