I've found it profiles well as an RGB device. I've gotten very accurate matching to profiled press proofs printing out of Quark 4.1 using Compass Profile XT via the Epson Stylus RIP to a 2200. I'm surprised there is not more degradation in the appearance of deep black detail considering that the black plate information is totally regenerated. But then, I suppose that with most CMMs, by the time you've gone from PressCMYK to Lab to ProoferCMYK with a full CMYK RIP, the black plate would still have been completely regenerated.

Yes, deep in the archives of this list you will find posts by Chris Murphy, among others, about the odd black generation situation with StylusRIP, since it returns to the Epson screening after everything else is done. As I recall you need to set black generation to none in order to profile this RIP...
